The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed parts of Western New York under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather on Monday. This marginal risk highlights counties west of Rochester such as Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties. However, it is important to note that this is not a definitive line, and strong storms will likely stretch into Brockport, Rochester, and the Finger Lakes as these storms move southwest to southeast across the state.
Monday morning will start out with some scattered showers across Western New York. Dew points will increase into the mid-60s providing moisture for instability. High temperatures on Monday will top out around 79 degrees. Stronger embedded storms are not expected until the 4:00 PM hour and after. These storms may also stretch into the evening but should be out of the area by midnight. The biggest threats include damaging winds and downpours. With the current drought situation, dry ground may not be able to handle heavy downpours making surface runoff, ponding, and minor flooding a possibility. The chance of a tornado warning is very low, however, not zero. The windshear profile seen on recent data suggest some storms may form some rotation. However, this is not a primary concern.
