BROCKPORT, N.Y.---- The Portside Royals and Pittsford Panthers hockey teams faced off with one another on Thursday night at SUNY Brockport. Both teams entered the game looking to stay on the winning track. Portside led 2-0 early on, but Pittsford scored three goals and completed the comeback win in overtime 3-2.
"Since the beginning of the season until now I think we have improved so that's all that matters," Portside Royals assistant coach Zac Case said. "We're building towards the end of the year, that's the goal. They're a strong team on the other side and hopefully, we'll see them later in the year like we did last year and have a better result. Our boys played well so that's all that matters."
It was a quiet first period as both teams were unable to score a goal. Special teams stood strong as both teams killed off penalties. Pittsford outshot Portside 16-to-14 in the period.
At the 10:02 mark of the second period, Portside senior forward Justin Pastorella found senior forward Landen Christ who scored a goal to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. This was Christ's first goal of the season.
Later in the second period, Portside freshman forward Wyatt Pentz went top-shelf and lit the lamp once again to extend the Royals lead to 2-0. This was his first goal of the season. Senior Joseph Mallette was credited with the assist.

"We knew coming in he is an unbelievable player," Portside Royals goalie Daniel Kucmerowski said. "He was an eighth grader last season and got some minutes. We are happy to have him and happy to have those types of gritty players stepping up for us."
With 2:04 left to play in the second period, Pittsford forward Charles Hezel found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half and make it a 2-1 game heading into the intermission. Senior forward David Pollard was credited with the assist.
Pittsford tied the game at two apiece after Pollard scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 5:29 mark in the third period. Pittsford killed off a penalty with 2:10 left to play in the game to keep the game tied and force overtime.
Pittsford completed the come-from-behind win after forward Peter Yarovowski snuck the puck through the five-hole of Kucmerowski with 2:30 left to play in overtime.
Kucmerowski entered the game with a .900 save percentage and saved 45 of the 48 shots on goal by Pittsford.
