Knighthawks re-sign captain to one-year deal

The Rochester Knighthawks announced on Friday that they have re-signed team captain Dan Coates to a one-year deal.

The 39-year-old defenseman out of St. Catherines, Ontario, will be entering his 14th season in the National Lacrosse League. He has spent the previous five seasons with the Knighthawks, after spending his first eight seasons with the Colorado Mammoth.

In 2026, he recorded 89 loose balls, caused 10 turnovers, and 8 blocked shots. Coates ranks third in franchise history for caused turnovers and blocked shots.

The Knighthawks also picked up three additional defensemen in the dispersal draft on Tuesday, signing veterans Callum Jones, Brent Noseworthy, and Luc Magnun.

Jones was the Knighthawks first-round pick in the dispersal draft; he was the 2026 National Lacrosse League Player of the Year. With the Ottawa Black Bears last season, he tallied 11 points (3+8), picked up 173 loose balls, and caused 32 turnovers, both good enough for third best in the league.

Noseworhty signed a three-year deal with the Knighthawks after spending the 2026 season with the Black Bears. With the Black Bears, he picked up 127 loose balls along with 18 caused turnovers. The seventh-year defenseman also tallied 11 points (2+9) in the 2026 season. He was picked up by Rochester in the second round of the dispersal draft.

Magnun was selected by the Knighthawks in the fourth round of the dispersal draft after also spending his 2026 season with the Black Bears. He signed a one-year deal with the Knighthawks on Friday. The Manitoba native will be entering his 11th season in the NLL; he is coming off of a season where he recorded 60 loose balls and nine caused turnovers.

Magnun spent time in Rochester from 2016-2019 with the original Knighthawks. In his first stint in Rochester, he recorded 26 points (4+22), 238 loose balls, and caused 24 turnovers.

The Knighthawks season begins at home on Saturday, November 28, at 7 pm against the Halifax Thunderbirds. The full Knighthawks schedule will be released on Tuesday at 12 pm.
