After SUNY Brockport’s 56-0 dismantling of the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs on Saturday, October 21st, Brockport Golden Eagles sophomore quarterback Zymier Jackson earned his second Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week this season.

“Being named offensive player of the year twice so far in the season is great,"  said Jackson of the honor. "I'd like to give all praise to the almighty for allowing me to display my talents each and every week at a high level. I’d also like to thank the players around me that allow me to go out and perform how I do each and every week.”

Jackson threw for the most yards and touchdowns he's had in a game with 270 yards passing and four touchdowns through the air. He found four different receivers for touchdown passes as he hit Kyle Slywka, Nolan Slywka, Dylan Caraballo, and Anthony Diaz for scores.

“During my touchdown passes, I take them just like every pass play, complete the pass no matter what. That’s my mindset when I get a pass play called in,” Jackson said. “My goal is to execute every call my coach makes at a high level, whether it's a pass or run.”

Jackson has had a stellar first season as a starter after replacing previous starter Ben Gocella in SUNY Brockport's 14-27 loss to Hobart College on September 12th. Since taking over, he has thrown for 1125 yards through the air with 13 touchdowns, adding 226 yards on the ground along with four more touchdowns. Jackson first won the honor after his performance against St. John Fisher in the Courage Bowl on Oct. 5, when he accounted for four total touchdowns.

“Me and the guys are just taking things day by day, not looking too far ahead, and we are just focusing on getting better as a unit each and every day,” Jackson said.

Jackson's next chance to continue his stellar sophomore season will be on Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Golden Eagles (6-1, 4-0 E8) visit the Alfred Saxons (2-5, 1-3 E8). Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
