SPENCERPORT, N.Y. -- Earlier this week, a beloved member of the Spencerport community passed away.

From the Spencerport website, "We celebrate a life that was woven entirely into the fabric of this village. To the public, she was Deputy Mayor Carol Nellis-Ewell—a tireless leader, a fierce advocate for our seniors, with a sharp financial and structural mind. But to me, and to so many of you in this room, she was simply Carol. A trusted partner, a sounding board, and a dear, irreplaceable friend."

In a post on his Facebook page, Mike Zale, the Town Supervisor of Ogden, the town which the village of Spencerport resides, has a few words for the late Deputy Mayor. "Carol's legacy reaches far beyond Village Hall. She was a longtime local business owner through Afrikamba Curios, a dedicated member and advocate of the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce, a tireless champion for our senior community, and a public servant whose impact will continue to be felt throughout Spencerport and Ogden for many years to come. Those are just a few of the countless ways she gave back to the community she loved." Zale also credits Nellis-Ewell for encouraging him to run for Town Supervisor.

Carol's family encourages those also mourning to donate to the African Wildlife Foundation, at AWF.org, in her memory
