OSWEGO, NY --- The Brockport Golden Eagles men's basketball team travelled to SUNY Oswego on Friday for their semi-finals matchup against the Cortland Red Dragons. A win against Cortland would send Brockport to the SUNYAC Championship.
Golden Eagles defeated the Red Dragons with a final score of 65-53.
This was a game where the Golden Eagles took the lead and never trailed once the entire game.
The entire first half was a defense-heavy one with the score being only 22-17 going into the second half. "We're basically playing a football game," said Brockport's head coach Greg Dunne.
Nothing really went right for the Red Dragons as they shot very poorly from the field shooting only 3-30 from three. Likely SUNYAC Player of the Year senior forward Austin Grunder scored 16 points but only shot 5-17 from the field. Freshman forward Aaron Coston finished with 15 points and junior guard Kareem Lubin finished with 14.
During the second half, scoring happened a lot more as Brockport won that second half 43-36. Senior forward Jahidi Wallace scored 19 points with 10 rebounds while sophomore guards Tony Arnold and Mekhi Beckett each had 14.
"I just want to beat them again. I feel like they're not as good as people put them out to be, we're the better team," said Wallace about a potential championship game against Oswego.
The Oswego State Lakers defeated the New Paltz Hawks 73-68 so Brockport will face the Lakers this Saturday at 4 p.m. for the SUNYAC championship round. Check out for our live broadcast here on the website. Broadcast starts at 3:45 p.m. for pre-game.
