BROCKPORT, N.Y. --- Brockport Golden Eagles baseball could not keep up with the Utica Pioneers offense as they were defeated 8-6 on Friday afternoon. The loss kicked off the final regular season series of the year for the Golden Eagles.

"We got outside of our approach a little bit," Golden Eagles head coach Nick Pontari said. "That's okay, we'll focus a little bit more on that pregame tomorrow. We'll come ready to hit our pitch."
Utica jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning against Golden Eagles starter Tyler Pohlman with two RBI singles and a sac fly. Michael Norton tied the game for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run that drove in Evan Brock and Josh Indek.
After a scoreless second and third innings, Lance Berger gave the Pioneers the lead in the fourth with a towering two-run homer.
Utica added a sixth run in the fifth inning before another homer from Berger, this time a solo shot, gave the Pioneers a 7-3 lead. Ty Montrose added another run later in the inning to extend the Utica lead to five runs.
Brock brought the Golden Eagles back within striking distance in the seventh inning with a three-run homer of his own to bring the Brockport deficit to two runs.
The Golden Eagles brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't come through, ending the game at 8-6.
"As we come down the stretch here, we want to make sure everyone is on the same page and ready to go and giving their best efforts moving forward," Pontari said.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 20-17 and 16-4 in conference play. Utica improves to 21-14 and 11-8 in conference play with the win.
The Golden Eagles final two games of the regular season will be on Saturday at home. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
