Bisons blown out by Railriders

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bisons dropped their last night game of the season 10-2 to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders on Friday. The Railriders were all over Bisons starter Adam Kloffenstein, charging him with five earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched. Buffalo struggled to cash in with runners in scoring position and were also hurt by three errors.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Spencer Jones two-run RBI double. That double was Jones' 14th and 47th & 48th RBI of the season. Jones was taken 22nd overall by the New York Yankees in the 2022 draft, and he is ranked the #86th prospect in all of baseball, and ranked #3 in New York's system.

The Bisons would strike back quickly as leadoff man Johnathan Clase struck a line shot towards the right field fence, but Railriders right fielder Ismael Mungia could not make the grab, and Clase would run all the way home for an inside-the-park homer. That homer was Clase's seventh and his 20th RBI of the season. The Bisons now only trailed 2-1.


"I'm glad the outfielder did not make a good throw," said Buffalo Bisons manager Casey Candaele when asked about Clase's inside the park homer. "It was exciting."

Both starting pitchers would toss zeros until the Railriders struck back once again in the 5th. Designated hitter Jose Rojas jolted a two run homer into the right field seats to extend Scranton Wilks-Barres lead to 4-1. It was Rojas' 32nd homer, and his 104th and 105th RBIs of the season.


The Railriders were not done though, as first baseman TJ Rumfield poked a single to right field to score Spencer Jones from second base. Rumfield's 87th RBI of the year gave the Railriders a 5-1 lead. With Rumfield at first base, Bryan De La Cruz crushed a 399 ft homer to center field to widen the lead to 7-1 in favor of Scranton Wilkes-Barre. The Homer was De La Cruz's 15th of year and his 48th and 49th RBIs.

In the next frame, with a runner at first, Railrider Catcher J.C. Escarra lined a double down the right field line to score Jorbit Vivas. it was Escarras third double and 17th RBI of the season. the lead now stood at 8-1 with the railriders now pouring it on. in the bottom half of the sixth, Bisons thirdbaseman Josh Kasevich would drive in a run via a sacfly to cut the lead to 8-2. Kasevich earned his fifth RBi of the season.


later in the eigth inning. the railriders would cash in once again with RBIs from Vivas and Escarra to extened Scranton Wilkes-Berre lead to 10-2.


WIth Buffalo trailing 10-2 in the ninth. Railriders reliver Wilking Rodriguez came in to close the door. he retired the bisons and secured not only the win for Scranton wilkes-Berre but also a spot in the international league playoffs. Adam Kloffenstein recived the loss and Sean Boyle gets the win.


"dont mail in the last two games, its important" said Candaele. "Finish up a couple games strong and go home with a good feeling, and get yourself back to spring traning to do it all over again."


The Bisons play against Scranton Wilkes-Berre tommrow again at 1:05. CJ Van Eyk (4.91, 5-10) will start for the Bisons and the starter for the Railriders is still to be determined.
