SPENCERPORT, N.Y. – The Spencerport Rangers earned their seventh shutout win in a row with a 1-0 win over the Hilton Cadets. Goalkeeper Addison Lynch recorded three saves in the shutout win for the Rangers.
The Rangers defense made key stops throughout the night, as they stopped four corners and three free kick attempts for Hilton.
“They’re playing superb, both individually defending and collectively,” Spencerport head coach Jamie Schneider said. “Not really giving up any goals and any dangerous opportunities. It starts from our forwards to our midfield defensively, so we’re really pleased.”
The lone goal was scored in just the third minute of play after a lead pass from mid fielder Lindsay Lenhard set up forward Emily Peacock for her 21st goal on the season.
“Their back line was very spread out, so we were just trying to find the gaps," Peacock said. "We just couldn’t finish, but I got the perfect opportunity when the goalie came out and I knew I had the bottom right corner.”
Peacock and Lenhard had multiple looks throughout the game, giving each other opportunities to score. Peacock now leads the Rangers in goals scored while Lenhard sits behind her with 20 goals total. Lenhard also leads Spencerport with 17 assists.
“They’re exceptional,” Schneider said. “They’re exceptional on the ball but they’re also exceptional off the ball, with their teammates and obviously with each other. They can find each other pretty well. Its impressive how smart they are.”
The Rangers continued to put pressure on Hilton goalkeeper Sierra Bianchi. Isabella Ranieri sent a shot into the top post in the 19th minute and Jayda Solomon got her shot saved in the 33rd minute. The Rangers had seven total shots on goal in the first half compared to Hilton’s three.
In the last minute of the first half, Bianchi almost set up Lenhard for a goal after a botched kick, but she was able to make the save to end the half down 1-0 against the Rangers.
As the game entered the second half, both defenses stepped up their game with more physical play and less shots on goal for both teams.
“It definitely was a very difficult challenge,” Lenhard said. “We knew that it was going to be difficult to try and break that back line because they are very physical, and they do have some solid defenders back there.”
Despite strong breakaway efforts from Olivia Pilato and Sydney Fisher, Hilton was unable to respond to the Rangers’ lone goal as they drop down to 6-2-2 on the season. The Cadets next matchup is on the road on Friday, Oct. 4 against Churchville-Chili.
Spencerport improves to 11-0-1 on the season and looks to continue their shutout streak at home on Monday, Oct. 7 also against Churchville-Chili.
