After what feels to be forever, the ex-members of everyone's favorite British band, though not together anymore, have all announced major news within the same few weeks. January is a huge month for fans with new music and shows being announced. With the "2026 being the new 2016" trend going around social media, here is a very fitting “Directioner” update.
Zayn Malik: Malik's first ever solo tour, “Stairway to the Sky” began last year with a limited run including a few last-minute cancellations and a few postponements. However, fans have nothing to worry about because he kicked off the continuation of the tour on January 20th in Las Vegas. Malik has also spoke out about a new album coming soon. He stated to Vanity Fair magazine, “I’ve been in the studio a little bit...I got a new record coming for you guys pretty soon. I’m really excited about that. I’ll be playing some songs tonight for the first time — for you guys.”
Niall Horan: Over the past year, Horan wrapped up his hit tour “The Show” and with that he became a guest judge on the voice. However, January 20th held some big announcements from the former band member. On January 20th, Horan announced that he is teasing new music, with an upcoming collaboration with Myles Smith called "Drive Safe", which is also stated to be the title of the next album.
Louis Tomlinson: Big news from Tomlinson, over the past year he has been quiet on social media until the release of his singles “Lemonade” and “Imposter”. His recently announced tour sparked a lot of buzz across media platforms, and a few shows have already sold out. The biggest news of all though is that on January 23rd his newest album “How Did I Get Here”. The album dropped with a song called “Dark to Light” that fans have assumed to be about Liam Payne, and it has the classic "Louis" sound compared to the more modern techno sound of the entire album.
Harry Styles: Major news from Styles. After being on hiatus for five years following the incredible record-breaking success of his last tour “Love on Tour”, Styles has announced a new album. “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally” drops March 6th with a current single that dropped January 23rd called “Aperture”. With the release of the new album, there has also been conformation that Styles has a 30-day residency at Madison Square Garden.
Liam Payne: Following his passing in October 2024, his memory has been nothing but thriving. As fans are still mourning his legacy, it is rumored that songs on the other band members solo albums are about him. It has been confirmed that Tomlinson's new song "Dark to Light" is about Payne.
January has been a busy month for the ex-British pop band. However, with that door continuing to be closed for now, the new beginnings and continuing of their careers will be more than exciting to experience.
