Offensive explosion for Brockport Baseball leads to series sweep of Fredonia.

BROCKPORT, N.Y.--- The Golden Eagles outscored Fredonia 41-11 and had a total of 43 hits in the series against the Blue Devils. Outfielder Nicholas Pastore notched his 200th career hit in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday.

On Friday, Brockport had plenty of offense and was backed once again by great pitching to win the game 12-1.


In the top of the second inning, catcher Ryan Voight got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles after driving in third basemen Johnny Genau with a single.

In the top of the third inning, outfielder Zach Eldred hit a two-run homerun to put the Golden Eagles up 3-0. The next inning, outfielder Nicholas Pastore made it 7-0 after hitting a Grand Slam home run.


In the bottom of the fourth inning, Alex Gannon scored off of a bases-loaded walk to give the Blue Devils their first run of the game. This is the only run Fredonia would score in the game.


In the top of the fifth inning, catcher Ryan Voight hit a two-run single that drove in second basemen James Houlahan and first basemen Patrick Bigham. Later in the inning, designated hitter Brian Tietjen drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. This gave Brockport a 10-1 lead.

In the top of the ninth inning, Zach Eldred scored on an error by pitcher Nathan Zicari. Later in the inning, catcher Colin Coykendall drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. The final score was 12-1 Brockport.


Saturday, Game One


In the top of the first inning, Nicholas Pastore singled up the middle and brought home shortstop Justin Pangburn. Three batters later, designated hitter Brian Tietjen hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0 Brockport.

In the top of the third inning, Tietjen drove in Pastore with a single up the middle. This made it a 4-0 game. In the next inning, Pastore singled and brought home Pangburn.


In the bottom of the fourth inning, Blue Devils outfielder Jordan Maher brought home three runs after hitting a double to left field. This made it a 5-3 game. These would be the only runs the Blue Devils would score in the game.


In the top of the fifth inning, outfielder Ryan Mansell drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, James Houlahan scurried home on a wild pitch to make it a 7-3 ballgame.


In the top of the sixth inning, Ryan Mansell singled and brought home outfielder Frankie Vanzillotta. Brian Tietjen also scored on the play due to an error by Fredonia. The next batter, Johnny Genau doubled and drove in second baseman Nick Mahar and James Houlahan. This gave Brockport an 11-3 lead.

Brockport would add five more runs in the top of the seventh inning, to make it 17-3. Fredonia was unable to score in the bottom of the inning and the game was called due to the mercy rule.


Game Two


In the top of the first inning, Patrick Bigham hit a two-run double that brought in Nick Pastore and Zach Eldred.


In the top of the second inning, Johnny Genau scored on an error by Fredonia shortstop Nicholas Barberio. Later in the inning, Zach Eldred drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. The next batter, Patrick Bigham singled and drove in Pangburn. Pastore would score on another error by shortstop Barberio, making it 6-0 Brockport.


In the top of the third inning, Nick Pastore doubled and drove in Justin Pangburn to give Brockport a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Alex Gannon hit a two-run single that brought home Garrett Stuckey and Jordan Maher to get the Blue Devils on the board.


In the bottom of the sixth inning, designated hitter Tyler Curtis hit a two-run homerun to cut the Brockport lead in half. Later in the inning, outfielder Matt Wojcik singled and drove in Gannon. Infielder Brady Ventura scored on the play due to an error by Eldred. This made it a 7-6 game.


In the top of the seventh inning, Johnny Genau singled and drove in Houlahan to extend the Brockport lead 8-6.


In the top of the eighth inning, James Houlahan hit a two-run single up the middle that scored Pastore and Eldred. The next batter, Ryan Voight doubled to left field and brought home. Later in the inning, Genau brought in a run on a sacrifice fly. This made it 12-6 Brockport.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Blue Devils added a run from a sacrifice fly by Kyle Tedford to make it a 12-7 game. This would be the final score of the game.


With the Wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 19-9 on the season and 10-2 in the conference. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the University of Rochester at 4pm.
