The Hilton Cadets ended the Fairport Red Raiders' 2023 season in the sectional quarterfinal. Tonight, Fairport kept Hilton off the scoreboard entirely in their 28-0 win.

"It's all heart and pride and we take pride in watching a zero go down on the scoreboard," junior wide receiver and defensive back Jonathan Roessel said.

Fairport junior quarterback Sam Roselli was 13-of-18 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Red Raiders. He threatened the defense with his rushing ability and was safe with the football.

"I got pulled up last year as a sophomore and I got to witness that sectional run and first round we got knocked out so coming up, filling that QB-1 role it was a big win for the program," Roselli said.

For Hilton, senior captain offensive and defensive lineman Kyle Serow made many stops at the line of scrimmage from the D-line. Senior captain running back John DiBattisto was explosive with runs of seven, 14 and 25 yards for first downs.

Fairport scored on three of their first four drives. It was just the sixth play from scrimmage when senior running back Bailey Frank scampered 43 yards and across the goal line for the early lead. He had 64 yards on the game's first drive and ended the day with 102 rushing yards plus seven tackles defensively.

Fairport senior running back Noah Remington was effective in the second half and ended with 10 rushes for 60 yards and a late 10-yard touchdown rush. Leading from the defensive line, senior Marques Garrett and junior James Kester each contributed seven tackles and a sack on the day.

Roselli found senior wide receiver Aiden Shapley for almost 30 yards to start Fairport's second series. Shapley ended the day with six catches for 67 yards. Hilton's defense forced Fairport's only punt of the game later that drive.

Hilton tore several self-inflicted wounds early on. The Cadets suffered two first-half third-down drops plus a successful conversion called back due to a holding penalty.

"That didn't help," Hilton head coach Rich Lipani said. "We could have maybe kept some drives going, maybe we could have punched one in but they outplayed us."

Roselli led a 79-yard nearly seven-minute drive that culminated in a second-quarter 10-yard touchdown pass to Roessel. Roselli recorded over 20 yards rushing on the series. John Gossin, Roessel and Shapley all made catches for first downs. Gossin added seven tackles and a pick on defense.

Roessel made an interception on the next defensive series. Then, the Red Raiders' offense stayed hot with Roselli finding Kester along the sideline 30 yards downfield before he crossed the goal line to make Fairport's lead three scores.

"You just got to love competing," Roessel said. "All 11 guys - no matter what side of the ball you play on - we love competing."

Hilton is now 4-2. The Cadets will face the Penfield Patriots next Friday at 7 p.m.
