BROCKPORT, NY-- Brockport shut out Keuka College at home with a score of 4-0, taking them to the top of the Empire 8 standings. Brockport went into the game with a 4-0-1 record with a three-game winning streak, including a win over Russell Sage to start in-conference play. Keuka came onto the pitch with a record of 1-6. Junior goalkeeper Madeline McCrosson was able to keep another clean sheet. She faced two shots in the match and was able to save both.

“We have a lot of depth coming off our bench,” said McCrosson. “We have a lot of people who can come onto the pitch and make an impact this year. So, I think we have a lot of talent, and we’ve been utilizing them really well all over the field and that has been the key to our success.”

The goalkeeper has not conceded any goals so far this season, making Brockport the only team in Empire 8 women’s soccer to do so. She earned last week's Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week.

“I like to talk about the defensive line every chance that I get,” said McCrosson. "The girls in front of me make it really easy to be successful. I like to look at these awards as like a chance to see everyone in front of me and get to talk about them.”

The Golden Eagles had 38 shot attempts in 90 minutes, 18 out of which were shots on target. There were four different goal scorers in the match. Sophomore Brianna Marino scored the first of her college career. The other three goal scorers were graduate student forward Jaylah Cossin, sophomore midfielder Amelia Breton and sophomore forward McKenna Slate. Marino opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles.

“It was very exciting to definitely score my first college career goal as a sophomore and transitioning from defense to midfield and going back and forth was very exciting to be a part of the win,” said Marino. “Especially it being my first goal, my team’s overwhelming support that they gave me as soon as I scored was just very supportive.”

The Golden Eagles were seen playing an intense and technical style of soccer with a lot of ball progression and fast scoring moments. The team had a shot percentage of 0.105.

“You get contributions from all different parts of our team, all different team members,” said Brockport head coach Mike Idland. “And it’s always exciting when somebody kind of chips in for their first one and you know it very much gets the team up, and the team vibes are good.”

“We insist that the intensity level stays high, and the running never drops off from your players," Idland said. "When you have a good depth on your roster, you know where you can play at full intensity a lot of times. That’s how the game will end up shaping up over time and I think it helped us today.”

The Golden Eagles will be on the road this Wednesday to face Hilbert College in a non-conference game, looking to extend their winning streak.
