Brockport cruises past Plattsburgh 7-3 , improves to 5-0 for first time in 4 decades

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Golden Eagles defeated the Plattsburgh Cardinals by a score of 7-3 Saturday night. With the victory, Brockport is off to its best start in a season in 41 years, as this is their first 5-0 start on the season since 1980. The Golden Eagles would open the scoring on the power play early in the first period, as Trevor Prey connected on a one-timer past Plattsburgh goaltender Anthony Del Tufo. Plattsburgh would tie the game later in the first on a goal by Joey Mancuso. The two teams headed into the intermission 1-1.

Poor discipline cost Plattsburgh early in the second as they took another penalty, resulting in a power play goal for Andrew Harley to put Brockport up 2-1. What followed was a monsoon of goals as Jake Colosanti, Andrew Harley again, and Jacob King all scored to put Brockport up 5-1. The Eagles went 2 for 7 on the power play overall, which proved to be decisive. The Cardinals would claw two goals back from Hunter Alden and Bennett Stockdale, but Brockport would close out the game with two more goals from Sam DiBitetto and Ryan Romeo to win 7-3. Harley was the leading scorer in the contest with 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points, while Ryan Romeo, Jacob King, Sam DiBitetto, and Connor Galloway each tallied 2 points. Goaltender Nolan Egbert continued his fantastic start to the season as he stopped 25 of 28 Plattsburgh shots on goal. This is the second time the Golden Eagles have started a season 5-0, the other being 1980. Brockport has never gone 6-0 to begin a campaign. They will look to do exactly that next Friday night at home as they battle the Oswego Lakers.
