Morning crash shuts down parts of 390

GATES, NY- Around 9:30 Monday Morning, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, along with the New York State Police, and Gates Police Department were called to I-390 at the Brooks Ave Exit near the Greater Rochester International Airport for a report of a three vehicle crash involving a dump truck.  “There was a disabled vehicle in the center lane of route 390 southbound. That vehicle was struck by a dump truck, which was also travelling southbound on route 390. As a result of that initial collision, the dump truck travelled across the median and entered the northbound lanes of route 390 and struck a third vehicle was travelling northbound on route 390.” said Monroe County Sheriff’s Captain Samuel Bell. Two people were injured in the crash. The injured were the occupants of the disabled vehicle and the car travelling northbound. They were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt. The dump truck spilled around 50 gallons of diesel fuel, shutting down I-390 in both directions for a few hours. The NYSDEC Spill Response team was called in to help clean up the oil spill. It was deemed a level 0 HazMat. Traffic was diverted off I-390 at the Brooks Ave/Rochester Airport Exit while Deputies investigated the crash. Deputies have not released the names of the drivers involved. No word on if any tickets will be issued. Gates Ambulance and the Gates Fire Department also responded to the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
