Carly Rae Jepsen: Emotion Side B

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

★★★★☆

Emotion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen is such a catchy album that makes me really happy. I never really thought she would make more music after her hit single “Call Me Maybe”. But, she proved me wrong with the release of this album in July of 2016. Some of my favorites on this album are “First Time” and “Roses”. She has a way with words and always ends up making her songs so catchy that keep me listening until the song is over. “First Time” has such a good chorus and beat that you never get sick of listening to it because it’s the song you are always singing that is in your head. This song has such a good beat that makes me want to get up and go dancing. I especially love the lyrics that go “Cause when my heart breaks It always feels like the first time, first time But if you stay here We could kiss away the goodbye, goodbye Through the heartbreak We'll make it feel like the first time, first time And if you stay here We could kiss away the goodbye, goodbye”. “Roses” another one of my favorites by her is more of a slow paced song that is a little something different to her from her. I really like the vereses that go like “I sat with you on my bedroom floor And I couldn't move, all that we were losing I saw you like I never did before I never did before” these are the lyrics from the verse before the chorus and they just stick out to me. I also, really like the chorus of this song that goes like “And I can feel you reaching through the cracks A simple change of seasons and you're back All the roses in the garden fade to black, ooh-ooh Yeah, I can feel you reaching through the cracks A simple change of heart and you attack All the roses in the garden fade to black, ooh-ooh I won't take it back”. This song is such a good song overall and I know that i will be listening to it for a while. Overall, this album is really well written and it was a surprise for me that it came from Carly Rae Jepsen. This album has made me have a new opinion on her because I never really thought she would be releasing an album as good as this one.
