This Minnesotan three piece has once again succeeded in making an album that will make you cry and laugh in equal parts. The band has been so successful that they scored a nomination for best underground band at this year’s APMA's (alternative press music awards). This album is one of the hardest hitting and emotional albums that I have heard in a while. You will like this band if you like La Dispute, Defeater, and even some pop punk bands like Real Friends. The album begins with the surprisingly upbeat "Good Enough" considering that the song is about the unfairness of life.
“Chapter one needs to come I have complained all morning
Now I can barely speak
There’s a message inside that tells me
I will shed this skin I’ll break free again."
The second song, “Happy Birthday", is one of the more danceable tracks from the album. The track is a typical TMP song about coping with a broken heart. The song discusses various memories that the pair endured together. "Birdhouse" incorporates unclean vocals for the first time on the album. Some have called this band a screamo band because of the occasional unclean vocals, but i disagree with that moniker. The music video for "Headache" is absolutely brilliant. The concept is that the three band members are living out their bucket lists and are filmed doing so. You will see the drummer bathing in cereal and all three band members’ shot gunning beers and doing a polar plunge naked. When it comes to the song, that itself is simply exuberant. "Common Cold" is my favorite track from the album. The song is brimming with desperation. The lyrics are dynamic and creative. “Tell the furniture to take off their costumes/I'm sick of feeling empty in a crowded room." If there is any track that the drums really shine on, it's this one.
