Song Review: "Save Your Tears" (Remix) by The Weeknd ft. Ariana Grande

Updated: Jan 6

If there is anything that the past year has brought us, it has been some awesome music from The Weeknd. Between the release of the 2020 album After Hours, a Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, and the “Blinding Lights” TikTok challenge. Now, he has re-released one of the tracks on the album, “Save Your Tears” with a twist to it: adding Ariana Grande.

The remix is 3 minutes and 11 seconds long, compared to the original version lasting just over 3 and a half minutes. The track starts off just like the original that we have all come to know and love, and the twist comes in with the hook. We hear Ariana’s vocals come in after “another day”, where we hear a synthesizer that reminds critics of 80’s pop music.

Ariana Grande sings the second and final verse in the remix, whereas the original has three verses. The verse that Ari sings is also completely different than the second verse in the original version:

Original Verse:

You could've asked me why I broke your heart

You could've told me that you fell apart

But you walked past me like I wasn't there

And just pretended like you didn't care

Ariana Grande’s Verse:

Met you once under a Pisces moon

I kept my distance 'cause I know that you

Don't like when I'm with nobody else

I couldn't help it, I put you through hell

Overall, it’s a nice change to the song that we have all become familiar with over the past year. The only thing I can complain about is that I wish they made it last just as long as the original. It seemed that the ending came abruptly once Ariana came in.

A music video to the remix can be found here, showing a cartoon Weeknd building a robot Ariana Grande.
