Song Review: "Breathe Again" by Joy Oladokun

Joy Oladokun is a somewhat new singer in the music scene. Her music career as a folk singer started a few years ago back in 2016 and has released 2 albums in that time.

She recently made her first television performance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” performing her song “breathe again” from her most recent album. After that performance, I wouldn’t be surprised if her career went up from here.

The song was a beautifully-crafted song with slow, somber piano music mixed with vocals that remind me of Billie Eilish or even Adele.

Although the song sounds somber, the message of the song is handled well in the song; it’s a song against perfectionism and inner doubt; letting go of your past mistakes and anxieties in order to focus on the present, which is a very relatable message.

Overall, this is a wonderfully crafted song that seems somber on the surface level, but with comforting and relatable lyrics for people who are experiencing anxieties over anything on their mind. It spoke to me on a personal level, and I hope it speaks to others on that level as well.
