Red Hot Chili Peppers - Black Summer (Review)

By Olissa Bruce / Production Director

If you are a long-time fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, this song can really catch you off guard. "Black Summer" starts off with a very slow and drowsy tune which is something we don’t see as often from the group. The beginning of this song is a resemblance to the deeper meaning of this song: a struggle of depression. However, this song quickly throws you for a loop with the song getting upbeat in the middle. The drums in this song tie this transition together as the lyrics go from describing the struggle of depression to the wait for it to end. The rhythmic guitar in this song along with the catchy and punchy baseline from the iconic bassist flea brings the song together. This song is perfect for not only people who struggle with depression or the daily struggles of life but, those who want a song to vibe or dance to as well. If you are a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, this song is definitely a must listen to.
