Music Review: "Pink" by Dolly Parton, Monica, Jordin Sparks, Rita Wilson and Sara Evans

October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Dolly Parton, Monica, Jordan Sparks, Rita Wilson, and Sara Evans just released the song “Pink” in support of breast cancer awareness, and this soulful song definitely tugs on the heart strings.

The song opens with a softly played piano and introduces Dolly Parton. She sings of a day “where pink will just be a color / not a ribbon to remember”. The song then transitions from Monica to Jordan Sparks to Rita Wilson to Sara Evans. They all sing a verse individually with one of the other artists singing back up. The verses discuss the heartache and challenges that people with breast cancer face. They then all sing the chorus together. The chorus includes lyrics like “you gotta believe without seeing” and “lean on the ones you love” giving hope and guidance to anyone listening. The chorus also acted as a way to propel the song into a passionate piece with the introduction of drums and guitars to accompany the piano based melody.

Overall, this uplifting anthem is a beautiful show of support for any fighters and survivors of breast cancer. It gave messages of strength through the darkest of times and hope that we will one day live in a world that can easily combat cancer. This song had perfect elements of country and rock and would be an excellent song for anybody that is into that genre or anyone that needs a little boost of strength.
