Residents unharmed after blaze destroys Greece apartment building

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

An apartment building in Greece is left in ruins after an overnight fire. Monroe County Fire officials are investigating what started the blaze that destroyed a building on Calm Lake Circle, part of the Cedar Commons Complex near Dewey Ave and Ling Road.

Lakeshore Fire Chief James O’Coin said that all occupants had escaped without injury when emergency responders arrived a little after 11 o’clock Tuesday evening. After about 30 minutes, fire crews were able to put out the flames. Chief O’Coin said that the Red Cross is working with displaced residents to find alternate housing as crews investigate and clean up the initial damage.

Complex resident Samantha Baldwin and her boyfriend evacuated their nearby building as a safety precaution. Baldwin described the scene as fire crews arrived. Baldwin said, “the full roof of the apartment had been on fire and in flames, and even the vinyl was coming down.” Baldwin also said that this is not the first fire she’s witnessed in the complex since moving in two years ago.

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
