11/29 - GEF Round 2 Preview

Updated: Jan 29, 2020

The Brockport Golden Eagles have made it to the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament for the third straight year, but face what is possibly their toughest test yet this season as they are in Allentown, Pennsylvania on the #4 ranked Muhlenberg Mules.

The Golden Eagles are coming off of a wild 33-28 victory over the Western New England Golden Bears that propelled them to 9-2 on the season lead by a great performance from the backfield of Freddy June and Jala Coad.

Muhlenberg, the first top five ranked matchup for Brockport since taking on Mary Hardin Baylor in 2017, comes in undefeated at 11-0, including a perfect 9-0 in the Centennial Conference to give them the conference bid into their ninth tournament overall. They are coming off of a 38-0 blowout over MIT.

This game could be a defensive game, especially when it comes to third-down conversions. Brockport holds opponents to about a 20.53%, good for second in Division III, while Muhlenberg holds opponents to 24.84%, 6th in the country. We spoke with Brockport defensive end and Empire 8 All-Conference First Team Josh Greenwood and got his thoughts on the Mules.
