Local boards debate financial fate of Brockport-Seymour Library

(BROCKPORT, N.Y)- Three local municipality boards met for a special meeting Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 to discuss the financial fate of the Brockport-Seymour Library. The boards decided to consider hiring a business consultant for the library after meeting with the library board at Sweden Town Park Lodge to go over potential budgets for 2019. Library Director Carl Gouveia presented three “dream” budgets that would allow the library to maintain longer hours of operation, fix technical problems with lighting and potentially remodel the now 20 year old building. The library boasts 9,806 registered borrowers, which breaks down to an average 400 visitors a day and roughly 376 items borrowed per day.

Residents unharmed after blaze destroys Greece apartment building

An apartment building in Greece is left in ruins after an overnight fire. Monroe County Fire officials are investigating what started the blaze that destroyed a building on Calm Lake Circle, part of the Cedar Commons Complex near Dewey Ave and Ling Road. Lakeshore Fire Chief James O’Coin said that all occupants had escaped without injury when emergency responders arrived a little after 11 o’clock Tuesday evening. After about 30 minutes, fire crews were able to put out the flames. Chief O’Coin said that the Red Cross is working with displaced residents to find alternate housing as crews investigate and clean up the initial damage.
